"Famous Fifties", Flowers and Fun

Father's Day weekend I went to upstate New York
for a  car show to sell literature on vintage cars.
 The theme was 'Famous Fifties",
but they included  all vintage cars, up to 1975.
The flowers and scenery were so  pretty at this
Hudson Valley Resort setting and the weather
was absolutely gorgeous!

My gardening friends, be not dismayed,
there are more garden pictures right in the middle of this post.

a street-rodded Terraplain, by Hudson  1937 or 38

I loved singing along with the doo-wop singers!

Each night I enjoyed a fun fifties concert.

1949 Ford

The Hudson Valley Resort had some beautiful gardens!
Weddings, family reunions, and other events are held here.
There are many conference rooms,  a large theater,
a golf course,  indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts and a spa.
Nearby are parks, Hudson River cruises, historical sites and more.

Many varieties of roses bloomed throughout the property
and  multi-flowering bushes of soft pink roses surrounded the gazebo.

Can somebody tell me what this pretty bush is?

And this plant is full of buds, and I can't identify it either.
A young fellow sold these hand-carved fantasy garden
benches and yard decorations,  he crafted from tree trunks!
This poppy field has made poor Dorothy very sleepy!

1956 Oldsmobile

This van was covered in fabulous artwork- scenes from the Wizard of Oz

Did I ever tell you, I played Dorothy, in my  high school
drama class' production of  The Wizard of Oz in 1971?
What a great time we had doing children's theater
for the 4 elementary schools in our sending district!

This is the van before it was painted with Oz

My favorite

A lovely view of gardens, gazebo, golf course,
and Adirondack Mountains!
I strolled around the grounds before the cars arrived
for the show, admiring each and every plant.

1957 Edsel

Lots of fun, reliving the "good old days", seeing the old cars,
(and us old people, who were young in the fifties!)   ;)
Listening to the musical sounds of the fifties.  The fifties were a very special time in history, full of promise and economic growth.   In the post-war era,  lots of new designs  and  new convenient products for the home became available.  Americans were hopeful- and things were looking up!
Let's pray that we can rekindle that spirit!  Hope you enjoyed my little adventure.

Happy Father's Day!

Daddy, he's trying to pedal as hard as you.

Grandpop, he's trying to do just what you showed him
I love this photo of my son-in-law holding newborn  baby Thomas in his hands.

"Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy!
I never knew I could feel this kind of love.
My life is forever changed.
Dear God, Thank you for this child, and help me
raise him and teach him all that is good,
help me become  the kind of father he needs."
- a new Daddy's prayer

Fathers, grandfathers,
stepfathers and fathers-in-law,
for your unconditional love, your care and guidance,
we thank you, we love you, and we honor you!

Cape May Job Is Done!

My work is all done! ( huge sigh)
The apartment I cleaned and painted in Cape May now has new
tenants  happily vacationing  in this beautiful Victorian seaside town.
I know they'll have a great time and be very comfortable.

Ah, it was nice!   I enjoyed a long walk, had French Toast, for brunch.
Alfresco- by the sea, delightful!   More walking, then the drive back home.

But,  here's one last look at the wonderful neighborhoods of this
    very special place.

The Wanderlust, a  very cute shop full of seashore-themed  home decor

A peek at someone's herb garden

lovely inviting porch

This corner lot has some blackberries growing near the sidewalk!

My friend Steve and his pretty young wife have the best coffee shop!
They sell all sorts of coffee beverages and smoothies, pastries, bagels,
muffins, croissants and more!                   Plus internet connections!
(I have to check my blog to see if you visited!)

Ted's having a Nantucket Blend, Steve's having a multigrain bagel with cream cheese

Gorgeous entryway, see the transom?

Looking up at the incredible detail on this Gothic Revival

One fabulous home after the other!

Now I have to go home......  But I'll be back!
